Domains Business Rules

Domains are provided subject to the Main Advertising Terms & Conditions, which are incorporated into these Rules by reference.

Terms defined in the Main Advertising Terms & Conditions shall have the same meaning in these Rules provided that, should a term be defined in both the Main Advertising Terms & Conditions and these Rules, the meaning of the term defined in these Rules shall have precedence in relation to the Rules.

  1. Definitions

    1. “Domain Name” A domain name is a string of characters including letters and numbers, which enable your web browser to locate the IP address and location of your website. A domain name directs customers to your website quickly and intuitively.
    2. “Owner / Registrant” The owner of a domain name is called the Registrant and is the legal owner of the domain. Only the Owner / Registrant can request changes to their domain name details.
    3. “Registrar / Hosting Company” A Registrar is the hosting company who purchase, store or host your domain name on your behalf.

  2. Management of Domains

      1. Domain Purchasing
      1. Auto Trader Limited don’t own or host domain names but we work with the following Registrars / Hosting Companies: Nominet: One of the world’s leading internet registry companies who provide support for .uk domains – http://www.nominet.org.uk/uk-domain-names/registering-uk-domain/legal-details

        NetNames: Host and provide domain name management for non AT Websites accounts. Typically these domains end in .com / .org / .net

        Ascio: Part of NetNames, Ascio host and provide domain name management for AT Websites accounts.

        These Business Rules are to be read in conjunction with the applicable Registar / Hosting Company’s Terms and Conditions as stated above.

      2. Auto Trader Limited can assist in purchasing a domain name for your website. Please note, Auto Trader Limited will not own the domain name and you will need to supply the relevant business information. As part of the registration and purchase process, the Registrar / Hosting Company will require you to verify details in order to validate and activate your domain name.

        Please note: The Registrar / Hosting Company will never ask you to provide any password details or disclose any confidential information.

        If you receive any suspicious emails or have any concerns or complaints regarding your domain name, please call 0345 111 0002 or email dnsmaster@autotrader.co.uk. Please allow 5 business days for a response.

        If you are not satisfied with the response you have received you should escalate your concern or complaint to our Director of Risk & Compliance. If we do not hear back from you within 20 days, we will consider your concern or complaint to have been resolved.

        All escalated complaints to our Director of Risk & Compliance should be made in writing and include your name and contact details and DID, the domain name(s) concerned, a description of your concern or complaint and what steps you would like us to take to resolve the issue. Escalated complaints should be clearly marked with “Complaint” in the subject line of your email or at the top of your letter. Please email your escalated complaint to dnsmaster@autotrader.co.uk or send in writing to Director of Risk & Compliance, Auto Trader Limited, 1 Tony Wilson Place, Manchester, M15 4FN.

        Escalated complaints will be acknowledged within 2 working days of receipt and a final response within 10 working days.

        Once your details have been verified and the registration and purchase process is complete, then you as the Owner / Registrant, are responsible for the administration of your domain name.

      2. Domain Transfer

      1. Transfer In – Auto Trader Limited can arrange for a domain name you already own to be transferred to Auto Trader so that we can host your website. However as the Owner / Registrant of the domain name, it is your responsibility to inform your current Registrar / Hosting Company.

        Please be aware that as part of the transfer process, the new Registrar / Hosting Company will require you to verify details in order to validate and activate the transfer of your domain name.

        Please note: The Registrar / Hosting Company will never ask you to provide any password details or disclose any confidential information.         Once your details have been verified, the transfer to Auto Trader will complete. Please note: you will still be the Owner / Registrant of your domain name and so you are still responsible for the administration.

      2. Transfer Out – If you want to move the management and hosting of your domain name to another provider, you as the Owner / Registrant, will need to confirm this to us in writing to dealerdomains@autotrader.co.uk . Please allow 3 business days for a response.
      3. Renewal
      1. All .co.uk domain names require renewing every two years and .com / .net domain names require renewing every year, the responsibility for this belongs to the Registrant. A charge for the renewal of your domain name may apply.
      2. Where an AT Websites account has been cancelled, the domain name will not be renewed or maintained by Auto Trader Limited and any website associated with the domain name will only remain live for a period of 14 days after cancellation. Auto Trader Limited will arrange for the transfer of domain names out to other Registrars / Hosting Companies where requested in writing to dealerdomains@autotrader.co.uk. Please allow 3 business days for a response.
      4. Hosting
      1. Domain hosting is for AT Websites only. Domain parking or Forwarding to point to external (3rd Party) hosted websites is not permitted.
