Steps we're taking to support our retail partners
The latest government announcement on Saturday was disappointing for us all. We remain committed to doing the right thing to support you and the wider automotive industry and today are announcing that:
Your advertising package will be free throughout December and payment terms for your November advertising will be extended by 1 month. You don't need to do anything to access this support, we will automatically remove all charges.*

Helping buyers feel confident buying their next vehicle
Our latest research conducted this week reveals that over 50% of vehicle buyers said they are willing to buy via Click & Collect or a Home Delivery service, with a further 22% unsure, and therefore open to influence. These services give retailers an excellent opportunity to win sales and convert buyers, which we're helping you do through our existing remote selling features and our new Click & Collect option.
We're also helping buyers feel more confident, launching a new marketing campaign and messaging on Auto Trader. We're introducing a new "Buying online" hub, accessible directly from the Auto Trader homepage which helps buyers understand how they can buy a vehicle from you.
Making your adverts work harder
Back in June, we introduced some significant improvements to our core search experience, including bigger images in mobile and removing standard format displays ads from a desktop. Next week we're rolling out the next set of changes to our search experience, focusing on desktop.
These changes are:
- Larger images: The main vehicle image is now 52% larger and we've reduced the number of smaller thumbnails.
- Removed partner advertising links: The links to our Insurance and Vehicle Check partners have been removed from the search listings.
- Information 'badges': We're introducing a consistent way of highlighting information in search, like Price indicator, Finance, Admin fees and Manufacturer approved. These have been live on mobile for a few months.
- Removed 'description' on larger screens: On screens wider that 1024px we showed part of the vehicle description that is on the FPA. We have removed this so the experience is consistent across all devices and screen sizes. This does not affect the attention grabber which is shown across all platforms and is an important way to get your vehicles to stand out in search.
These changes give consumers a better, more consistent experience across our platforms, and to increase the number of adverts that consumers view.
*December free advertising package refers to all elements of your advertising package, including contracted stock upgrades, excluding AT PPC & PPC Boost, Top Spot, Dealer Auction and pay per usage products. Additional Stock booked after 4th November will be charged at your usual rate. Market Extension will be charged at 50%.
